Helen B. Ellis, 63, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Memphis, Tennessee, died Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at her home. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Helen was born on December 19, 1955, in Memphis, Tennessee. She worked as a nurse’s assistant at a local nursing home. Helen loved doing crossword puzzles and listening to Joel Osteen. She enjoyed cooking, listening to music and enjoying time with her family. Helen was a true matriarch of her family and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her son, Kumeko Ellis; sister, Patricia Dailey; niece, Jumeka (Brian) Hemphill; grandchildren, LaTray and Kimyona Ellis, and Kumeka Jordan; three special great-nephews, Krysterfer Ellis, Tielvin Nelson and LaDarrius Ellis; and great niece, Alexus Smith.
Helen was preceded in death by her mother, Elmer Lee Ellis; sister, Linda Mitchell; and aunt, Willimae Flemings.
