Patrick Joseph Ball, 64, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at St Stephen Catholic Church in Central City, Iowa. Burial will take place at a later date at Boulder Cemetery in rural Central City. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion, Iowa, is assisting the family.
Patrick was born on August 24, 1957, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Eugene Joseph and Velma Nadine (Bowser) Ball. He graduated from Springville High School and went on to attend Mt. Mercy University and the University of Iowa, receiving his MBA. On December 21, 1978, Patrick was united in marriage to Cabrina Marie Pflughaupt. He worked for the City of Cedar Rapids for 33 years. Patrick started out in the Wastewater Department as the Assistant Operator, and later became the Operations Manager, then Plant Director, and retired as the Utilities Director. He then went on to work for Stanley Engineering and Consulting, Four Oaks, and Gross-Wen Technologies. Patrick was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, St. Stephen Catholic Church in Central City, the Knights of Columbus, Iowa WEF, WEF Tech, and Marriage Encounter. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and time with his family. Patrick will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Patrick is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 43 years, Cabrina Ball; two sons, Kent (Tricia) Ball and Ian (Dawn) Ball; daughter, Brianne Ball (Tim Schmitt); five sisters, Karen (Ralph) Voss, Kathy (Kenny) Houser; Marita Titler, Sue Pearson, and Tami Gillmore; three brothers, Mark (Bobbi) Ball, Robert (Deborah) Ball, and Kelly (Jolene) Ball; seven grandchildren, Haeley, Porter, Lucea, Graham, Amelia, Lucas, and Chloe; father-in-law, Jim (Carol) Pflughaupt; mother-in-law, Gloria Pflughaupt; brother-in-law, Jim (Julie) Pflughaupt Jr.; sister-in-law, Kim (Larry) Leopold; brother-in-law, Joe (Traci) Pflughaupt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sandra Etringer; and two nieces, Barbara Etringer and Kim Houser.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Patrick’s memory may be made to either the Salvation Army, or to Catholic Charities, or to St. Stephen Catholic Church, or to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
