Allen Lynn Cassel 69, of Manchester died Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Rev. Dr. Jean Rabary. Family will greet friends from 3 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 15 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Committal service immediately following the services at Oakland Cemetery.
Allen was born February 12, 1939 in rural Manchester, the son of Lyle and Louise (Fuhrman) Cassel. Allen graduated from Manchester High School in 1956, where he served as class president. He then attended Iowa State University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Allen served with the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves. On March 15, 1964, Allen was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Wade at First Lutheran Church, Manchester. The couple farmed on the family farm south of Manchester for more than 50 years.
Allen was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Manchester, a member of the Delaware County Shooters Assoc., and in later years, became a certified organic farmer.
Allen is survived by his three children, Nancy Cassel of Delhi, Sheila Cassel Tibbott and Mark (Amy) Cassel of Manchester; four grandchildren, Ian, Elias, and Eadie Tibbott, and Lyle Cassel.
Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon in 2001; his parents, Lyle and Louise Cassel; and a son-in-law, Rick Tibbott.
A memorial fund is being established in Allen’s memory.
