Andrew Foster, 77, of Marion, died Wednesday December 12, 2012, at the Madrid Home. Funeral Services: 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Andy was born in Iowa City on November 30, 1935, to Charles J. and Pauline Charipar Foster. He attended schools in Cedar Rapids and Muscatine, graduating with the Muscatine High School Class of 1954. He received his B.A. degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, in 1958 and a Master’s degree from the University of Iowa in English education. He taught junior high English at Shell Rock in 1958-59. Andy was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a disc jockey in Taegu, Korea in 1960-61. Upon returning from service, he taught high school English at Lincoln Community School. From there, he moved to Monticello to teach English and Math and coach junior high school sports from 1965 until his retirement in 1995. While in Monticello, Andy served on the public library board several years and on the Monticello Golf Club for one term.

Andy married Lucille Bobinet. They later divorced. To this union were born two sons, Dr. Scott (Dr. Samia) Foster of Davis, California and Grant (Sandra) Foster and their two children Sam and Elizabeth of Huxley, Iowa.

He later married Martha (Palmer) Holcomb of Cedar Rapids on November 1, 2003, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She died November 17, 2011.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy; and two brothers, Jack and Jim.

Also surviving are a sister, Doris of Hudson, Wisconsin; stepdaughter, Julie (Ken) VonMuenster and their children Erin, Nick and Katie of Anamosa; and a stepson, Greg (Janet) Holcomb and their children, Amy, Andy and Adam of Martelle.

Andy’s interests included volunteer work at both Cedar Rapids Theatres, reading, and music. He also enjoyed golfing, watching sports, and traveling. He had continued his interest in computers since his retirement.

Andy has donated his body to the college of medicine at the University of Iowa for the teaching of anatomy to medical students.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
