Andy Sorenson, 81, died Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation, Cedar Rapids. Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Rev. Mark Reasoner. Visitation: 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment: Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Sorenson of Cedar Rapids; children, Sheryl (Kevin) Horman of Cedar Rapids, Sandra (Doug) Spidle of Altoona, Iowa, Andrew (Melissa) Sorenson of Cedar Rapids and Robert (Gwen) Sorenson of Cedar Rapids; Seven grandchildren, Ian (Kara), Michelle (Jeremiah), Samantha, Andrew (Janelle), Zachary, Michael and Katie; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Peter (Rosene) Sorenson; sister, Betty (Elmer) Rose.
Andy was born on August 19, 1931, in Waterloo, son of Andrew and Cordelia (Davis) Sorenson. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Andy later worked for Becker Roofing Company then for Wilson Packing for 31 years where he later retired. He married Darlene Becker on July 21, 1954, in Norway, Iowa. Andy was an usher at St. Ludmilla Church. He was also a life-member of the VFW Post #788. Andy enjoyed shooting pool, fishing, working in his garage and time with his grandchildren.
