Annetta Fay Hershey, 84, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by family. Services will be held at a later date.
Annetta was born on January 9, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Burdette and Beaulah (Elsbury) Romig. She graduated from Edgewood-Colesburg High School. On December 21, 1964, Annetta was united in marriage to Harry Hershey in Illinois. Together they farmed near Central City and raised their two daughters. She also worked as a housekeeper at Lindale Mall for many years, until her retirement in 2007.
Annetta’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family was her number one priority. She found joy in gardening. Annetta was also known for her great cookie making skills, always sharing with others around her. She and Harry could be found many days taking trips around the countryside. Annetta never passed up an opportunity to go to the casinos, where she enjoyed playing the slot machines. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Annetta is survived and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Deanna Drtina and Barbara (Gary) Snobl, both of Central City; three grandchildren, Justine Drtina, Dustin Drtina (Sheri McKenna), and Tymbrie Snobl (Sterling Hulling); two great-granddaughters, Lola Meyer and Gemma Drtina; two brothers, James (Martha) Romig and John (Susan) Romig, both of Edgewood, Iowa; sister, Ronda (David) Wilson of Central City; brother-in-law, Martin Bayer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry Hershey; two sisters, Velma (George) Hershey and Vera (Bob) Greve; and sister-in-law, Betty Bayer.
The family would like to thank the staff at Emery Place Assisted Living, UnityPoint Transitional Care, and the UnityPoint Hospice for their dedication to Annetta and the tremendous support shown to her and her family.
