Arlene R. Hammond, 87, of 150 Thompson Dr. SE, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died Monday, April 17, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Howard Chapman. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Private Family Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her husband, Norm of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Norma Arlene Schmatt and fiancé Mike Perry of Cedar Rapids; a son, Bruce E. Hammond of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Arlene (Scott) Walters of Marion, Eric (Heather) Schmatt of Cedar Rapids and Jeffrey (Marci) Schmatt of Mt. Vernon; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan Bliss, Nick, Nathan, and Brett Walters, Alexsis Schmatt and Andrea and Danielle Hallier; and a sister, Daisy Munier of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lance and Floyd Morehouse; and an infant daughter, Ruby Hammond.

Arlene was born February 18, 1919, the daughter of Floyd and Ruby (Fordice) Morehouse in Linn County. On June 1, 1936, she married Norman Edward Hammond. Arlene worked in the office at Rapids Machinery Co. in Marion for twenty-two years, retiring in 1981. Arlene was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Marion Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star, and the El-Kahir Shrine Auxiliary.
