Arline V. Hampton, 94, a resident of Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Pastor Dennis Johnson. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include her son, Micheal (Dorothy) Hampton of Marion; and a sister, Beata “Bea” (James) Bailey; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; and two brothers, James and Hubert Monkelien.
Arline was born January 21, 1915, the daughter of John Martin and Kistern Otilia (Rostad) Monkelien in Pocahontas. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1933 and later from the University of Iowa Nursing Program. On December 16, 1939, she married Robert Wade Hampton in Hannibal, Missouri. He died June 5, 1984. Arline was a dedicated nurse who worked in the Mercy Medical Center operating room for twenty-seven years. After retiring she volunteered in the Human Resources Department for nearly 10,000 hours.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.
Arline dearly loved her gardening, knitting and needlepoint. She enjoyed camping with her husband and appreciated the “great outdoors”.
