Arno K. Grabe, 78, of 50 Devonwood Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, in Living Center West, Cedar Rapids, from complications of diabetes. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. There will be no services.
Survivors include his children, Sheryl (Tim) Hines of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Sue) Grabe of Walford, Mike (Mary Supple) Grabe of Marion, Scott (Mary) Grabe of Swisher, Kristin Grabe of Cedar Rapids, David (Stephanie) Grabe of McKinleyville, California and Jon (Danielle) Grabe of Marion; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Ivan (Maryann) Grabe, Shueyville; two sisters, Ingrid “Tootie” (Dick) Jorgensen, Walford and Eileen Robinson, Marion and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; grandson, Noah; an infant sister, Violet Grabe; and brother-in-law, Raymond Robinson.
Arno was born June 26, 1929, in Dannebrog, Nebraska, the son of William and Rigmor (Rasmussen) Grabe. On December 18, 1954, he married Patricia Poole in London, England. She died May 5, 2003. Arno served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He taught Industrial Arts and Drivers Education in the College Community Schools for over 45 years, retiring in 1988.
Arno was a member of the Marion American Legion Post #727 and enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, and woodworking.
