Arthur C. Simanek, 87, of Walker, Iowa, died October 30, 2005, in his home, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker, with military honors.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; his sons, Anton Simanek of Cedar Rapids and Allen (Linda) Simanek of Walker; and three stepgrandchildren, Dustin, John and Benjamin Clausen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arthur was born September 25, 1918, the son of Gabriel and Mary (Klima) Simanek, in Walker, Iowa. A graduate from Troy Mills High School, he attended Cedar Rapids Business College for two years and played for the Center Point baseball team for many years. Arthur served with the United States Air Force as a musician during World War II from 1941 to 1946. On December 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Penas in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A lifelong farmer, Arthur had a deep love for the land and his four generation century farm. He was an extremely talented musician and was a master accordion player who was featured in The Czech Artist band as the button accordion (Heligonka) player.

Arthur?s hobbies included reading history and western books and enjoying the outdoors by gardening, hunting, fishing and trapping. He was a member of the Musicians Local #137 and the National Rifle Association.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke?s Hospice in memory of Arthur.
