Artis Evelyn Martensen

Artis Evelyn Martensen, 82, of Springville, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Springville United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Sue-Ellen Sherman. The family will greet friends following the service. A private family committal service will take place at Springville Cemetery in the Spring of 2018.
Artis was born July 14, 1935, in rural Jackson County, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Harrietta (Johnson) Ehlers. She graduated from Wyoming High School in 1953. On June 5, 1955, Artis was united in marriage to Vern Malvin Martensen at the Methodist Church in Wyoming, Iowa. She was employed at Ottsen Oil Company as a bookkeeper for 30 years before retiring. Artis was a member of the Springville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women organization. She was a former member of the church’s Bell Choir and started their Youth Choir.
She is survived by her husband, Vern Martensen of Springville; three children, Wendy (Kirk) Davis of Cedar Rapids, Craig (Bonnie) Martensen of Cedar Rapids, and Chris (Tamara) Martensen of Nashville, Tennessee; sister, Mary Jo (Jerry) Campbell of Clinton; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Artis was preceded in death by her parents.
