Arvind Janardan Dandekar

Arvind Janardan Dandekar, 80, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Private Family Services have been held. A public Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Arvind was born on May 24, 1946, in India, the son of Janardan Govind Dandekar and Kamal Vaidya. Arvind attended Engineering College in Pune, India. He immigrated in 1967 to the United States. On November 8, 1972, Arvind was united in marriage to Swati Prabhakar Dharmadhikari in India, and together, they raised their two sons. Arvind earned his Master’s Degree in Engineering at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and went on to earn his MBA at the University of Iowa.

He built an accomplished career as an Electrical Engineer at Rockwell Collins, until his retirement. Arvind also enjoyed traveling and playing bridge. He loved working outside and tending to his garden. Arvind will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Arvind is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Swati Dandekar of Marion; two sons, Dr. Ajai (Allison Cole) Dandekar of Seattle, Washington, and Govind (Shaneeda Jaffer) Dandekar of Vancouver, Canada; four grandchildren, Evan and Will Dandekar and Ayaana and Iyla Dandekar; and two sisters, Jyoti Ganorkar and Urmila Deodhar, both of India.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Asha Mande.
