Barbara Suzanne Blattner, 71, a longtime resident of the Cedar Rapids area, died at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, Sunday December 13, 2009. Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Darran Whiting. The family will greet friends 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her children, Heidi (Craig) Hepker of Marion, and Mark Blattner of Marion; four grandchildren, Keaton, Aaron, Ryan, and Dylan; sister, Patricia Atwater of Cedar Rapids; brother, Charles Shaffer of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her children’s father, Max Blattner.
Barbara was born February 2, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Russell and Elizabeth (Errington) Shaffer. She was a veteran of the Women’s Army Corps, having served in Japan between 1957-1960. Barbara was a school bus driver for LinnMar Schools for 28 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Marion.
A memorial fund has been established in Barbara’s memory.
