Barbara Viola Campbell, 87, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. The memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Laurel, Iowa.
Barbara was born on February 7, 1939, in Laurel, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ruth (Otten) Locker. After High School, she attended Iowa State Teachers’ College and later earned her bachelor's degree from Mount Mercy College. On June 4, 1960, Barbara was united in marriage to Maurice “Maury” Donald Campbell in Laurel. She worked for the Linn-Mar School District until retiring in 2009. Barbara was an active member of Marion Methodist Church, where she participated in the Methodist Women’s group and spent many years working with challenged adults. She was also a member of the Marion Musical Literary Club and volunteered at the Indian Creek Nature Center. Barbara also gave her time to Girl Scouts and 4-H projects. She enjoyed baking pies, working in her garden, fishing on various Minnesota lakes, and watching birds. Barbara will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Barbara is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Maury of Marion; son, Alan (Karen) Campbell of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Juli (Steven) Groath of San Juan Orcas Island, Washington; and grandchildren, Dalton (Savannah), Dexter (Morgan), and Gabrielle (Shelbi).
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Doris Stineman; and brother, Dale Locker.
