Bernard “Bernie” Sullivan, Jr., 59, of Manchester, Iowa, died at his home on Monday, April 12, 2010, following a long battle with cancer.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 15, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. The family will greet friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 14, with a Scripture service at 7:30 pm at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa. Inurnment will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
Bernie was born on February 19, 1951, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Bernard F. & LaVonda M. (Miller) Sullivan, Sr. He attended West Delaware High School in Manchester. On September 9, 1972, Bernie was united in marriage to Wilma M. Cornwell in Freeport, Illinois. Bernie worked as assembler for 32 years at Henderson Manufacturing, Manchester, retiring in 2007. He also worked part-time for D.J. Repair in Manchester.
Bernie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and truck pulling and working on his cars.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Wilma M. Sullivan of Manchester; three children, John (Jessica) Sullivan of Oelwein, William (Heather) Sullivan of Manchester, and Mindy (Tony) Moll of Greeley; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Michael (Brenda) Sullivan of Marion and Charles (Wilma) Sullivan of Lake Placid, Florida; a sister Wendy (Bill) Carpenter of Manchester; his mother-in-law, Barbara Cornwell of Galena, KS; brothers and sisters-in-law, Theodore Cornwell, Randy (Jean) Cornwell, Rodney (Chris) Cornwell all of Tulsa, OK, John (Bonnie) Cornwell of Ripley, TN, Mick (Sharlene) Cornwell of Manchester, Penny (Barry) Smith of Portland, OR, Elizabeth McCarty of Glenda, KS, and Barbara (Wade) Gaskins of Ripley, TN.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard & LaVonda Sullivan, Sr. and by two brothers, John and David Sullivan.
