Bessie H. Machula
May 29, 1918 — April 4, 2006
Bessie H. Machula, 87, of Marion, died suddenly Tuesday, April 4, 2006. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at Springville Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Karen Downey Beals. Burial: Campbell Cemetery, Bertram. Visitation will be from 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday (April 9) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
Survivors include three sons, David (Marla) Machula of Springville, Steven (Ricky) Machula of Cedar Rapids and Carl (Hilda) Machula of Marion; a daughter, Neola "Mac? (Jerry) Olsem of Greeley; nine grandchildren, Cheryl (Eric) Wery, Mike (Melody) Machula, Michele Machula, Kathy (K.C.) Moore, Laura (Jeffrey) Mayhook, Shawn (Emily Urban) Machula, and Chris, Rachael and Greg Olsem; nine great-grandchildren, Cassie, Emily, Nick, Mary, Emily, Mila, Lili, Zoe and Nathan; a niece, Julie; and a nephew, Georgie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milo; and two sisters, Mary and Emma.
Bessie was born May 29, 1918, in Linn County to Frank and Georgia Pospisil Cimprich. She was united in marriage to Milo Machula on March 23, 1938, in Iowa City. Milo died February 3, 1998. Milo and Bessie farmed for many years and Bessie operated a private catering business. She was a member of Springville Presbyterian Church, Neighborhood Card Club, Mt. Vernon Rebekahs, Springville Palette Pals and was a 4-H leader.
Bessie was an avid oil painter and quilter, enjoyed antiquing and was well-known for her kolaches. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Whenever family or friends needed anything, she was the first one there. She especially enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. Bessie touched many lives in many different ways. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
