A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion, Iowa. Inurnment will be held at Saint Peter Cemetery in Toeterville, Iowa, at a later date.

Betty was born on July 8, 1926, at home in Muscatine County, Iowa, to Clark and Anna (Crow) Miller. She graduated from Muscatine High School and went on to earn her teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa- Teacher’s College. She was united in marriage to Harvey Orlando Thompson on May 7, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Sweatland, Iowa.

Betty taught at Rural Country School, as well as Sunday School and Preschool. She also worked for 12 years as an editor at Collins-Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Over the years, she and her husband, Harvey, designed and built three of the five homes their family lived in.

In 1980, Betty and Harvey retired to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, where they enjoyed a busy retirement selling handcrafted items across the country. Betty still made time to volunteer- a calling she continued for nearly 40 years.

After Harvey’s passing, she returned to Iowa in 2009. In 2020, she lost her sight and moved into the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Skip and Kathy Thompson, where she lived until her passing.

She grew up with a lifelong devotion to God and a deep love for art, music, and cats. A proud Iowan, she was an avid reader and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her children, Harvey O. “Skip” (Kathy) Thompson Jr., and Cindy (Brent) Kroenke; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey Thompson Sr.; her sister, Arlene (Jack) Mohnssen; her brother, Clark (Juanita) Miller; and three sets of brothers and sisters-in-law.
