Beverly "Bev" Ann Birk
July 28, 1939 — December 10, 2018
Beverly “Bev” A. Birk, 79, of Middle Amana, Iowa, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital on Monday, December 10, 2018 from a sudden illness. Celebration of Life 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2018, at P.H.A.T Daddy’s Restaurant in Amana, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Bev was born July 28, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of James Dimitrious and Frances Plattner. On May 30, 1957, she was united in marriage to Philip Birk.
Bev spent the majority of her life chasing and collecting train memorabilia with Phil. Together, Bev, Phil, and their daughters ran the Kane County RailRoadiana Show for 30 years. She was an animal lover and especially enjoyed cats. Anyone who had the opportunity to know Bev was lucky to have known a strong woman with a huge heart. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Bev is survived by her husband of 61 years, Philip Birk of Middle Amana; daughters, Laurie (Tom) Picha of Oswego, Illinois, Joyce (Gregg) Lungstrom of Woodford, Virginia, and Jessica (Erik) Emerson of Amana; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one very important recently discovered half-brother, Jim Dimitrious of Cadiz, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Dimitrious and Frances Plattner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Safe Haven in South Amana.
