Bishop Paul V. Beets, Sr., 64, of 1215 E. Avenue, Marion, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at River of Life Ministries, 3801 Blairsferry Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Rufus Johnson of First Light Christian Fellowship and Bishop E. L. Warren of Cathedral of Worship, Quincy, Illinois. Visitation will be Monday, May 8, 2006, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Gospel Tabernacle Church, 2531 42nd Street NE, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Oakhill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Paul Beets, Jr. of Cedar Rapids; his stepdaughters, Angela Horton, Jacqueline Horton, both of Chicago, Illinois, and Alfredia Horton of Marion; a stepson, Kenny Horton of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Rev. Wendell Beets and Colbert Beets; and two sisters, Lavernia Johnson and Alvernia Franklin.
Paul was born March 19, 1942, in Thornton, Arkansas.
