Bob Meyer

Bob Meyer, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, July 3, 2021, at his residence at Grand Living at Indian Creek in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will follow visitation at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Bob was born November 30, 1940, in Clarence, Iowa, the son of Sonny and Theo (Ruggles) Meyer. He graduated from Clarence High School and went on to attend Upper Iowa University and NE Missouri State University. Bob was united in marriage to Karen Sawyer at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were married for 62 years.
He worked for the Center Point-Urbana School District and was a basketball coach for 18 years, a baseball coach for 25 years, a junior high football coach for 25 years, and a boys’ golf coach for 20 years where he helped lead the team to a state championship in 1998. Bob was an avid golfer, card player, and lover of all sports that his grandchildren played. He was a fan of Coe College Softball and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Bob loved to cook and grill out. He had previously enjoyed hunting with his English Setters. Please raise a glass of Ten High with a splash of water in memory of Bob.
Survivors include his children, Diane Meyer of Cedar Rapids and Doug Meyer of Portland, Oregon; sister, Mary Ann Sachs of St. George, Utah; grandchildren, Andrea Meyer of Marion, Iowa, Abby Burger Cladek (Mike Cladek) of Denver, Colorado, Amanda Burger of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Lauren Meyer and Bobby Meyer of Dallas, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Keira and Addison Milam, Jack and Alice Hunt, and Lucca Olivo; brothers-in-law, Jim (Laura) Sawyer and Rick (Deb) Sawyer, all of Clarence; and granddog, LB.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Meyer; son, Mike Meyer; and parents, Sonny and Theo Meyer.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, a memorial fund has been established to be used to support Bob’s favorite organizations.
