Carmen C. Nye, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a extended illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilen (Duane) Skidmore; three grandchildren, John (Lillian) Skidmore, Joseph Skidmore, and Maria Victoria Reyes Cuerva; and three sisters, Luisa, Pilar, and Isabel.
She was preceded in death by her son, Louie Reyes Cuerva; her first husband, Francisco Reyes Cuerva; her second husband, Douglas Nye; two sisters, Victoria and Christina; and two brothers, Jose and Manuel.
Carmen was born October 22, 1920, the daughter of Jose Maria Castro Palomino y Ponce de Leon and Maria Cristina Arce in Rosario, LaUnion, Philippines. Carmen worked at Chick-fil-A restaurant until 2002.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilen (Duane) Skidmore; three grandchildren, John (Lillian) Skidmore, Joseph Skidmore, and Maria Victoria Reyes Cuerva; and three sisters, Luisa, Pilar, and Isabel.
