Carole Ann Nolan

Carole Ann Nolan, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at home in Marion. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Carole was born on February 22, 1938, in rural Livermore, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Nicholas and Elizabeth Mary (Noonan) Reding. She was a 1956 graduate of St. Joseph High School and went on to earn her teaching certificate from Mount Mercy College in 1958. She was crowned Queen of the Sweetheart Ball in college. On December 26, 1959, Carole was united in marriage to Patrick Vincent Nolan in St. Joseph, Iowa. Carole spent over 30 years running an in-home daycare, where she cared for so many children, her children often said she “raised half the kids in Marion.” She had a deep love for family time and found joy in teaching and caring for children, always putting others before herself. Carole was thoughtful and attentive, someone who made people feel seen, valued, and cared for. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, belonging to two different groups that brought her laughter and companionship. Carole will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carole is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Jim (Patti) Nolan, Mike Nolan, Kaye Nolan, Sue Nolan, Bob Nolan, and Anne (Johnny) Donovan; grandchildren, Jake (Arlinda) Nolan, Maureen (Jake) Nolan, Ian (Sydney) Nolan, Jack Nolan, Erin (Nick) Nolan, Oskar Raplinger, Simon Raplinger, and Bertie Donovan; and siblings, Mary Schultz, Alice Bertie, Pat Reding, Ron Reding, Bill Reding, and Dan Reding.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Patrick Nolan; two sons, Thomas Nolan and Brian Nolan; brother, Tom Reding; and sister, Jeanne Reding.
