Catherine M. Heffron, 93, a longtime resident of Marion, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father John Gossman and Father Tim Seigel. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion where a Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Survivors are Catherine?s cousins, Carmel (Bud) Langenfeld, Dr. John (Patricia) Heffron, all of Omaha, Nebraska, Patricia Powers of Delmark, Iowa and Mary McCleary of San Mateo, California; and many loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Walter and Frank. Catherine was born the daughter of John and Emma (Greenan) Heffron on March 1, 1913, in Cedar Rapids. She attended Marion High School, graduating in 1931. She maintained a close relationship with many of her classmates and took great pleasure in their class reunions. Catherine worked for the draft board in the early days of World War II. She was a legal secretary for the law firm of White, Stone and Horan for thirty years, retiring in 1975. Catherine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion and Marion Business Girls.
Catherine was devoted to her family and was selfless in her care for them. She will be remembered for her faithfulness to her church, her sense of humor and her concern for others.
