Cecil Robert Powell Jr., 77, of Rogers, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at his Minnesota home surrounded by loved ones. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with a visitation from 12 to 2 p.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City, Iowa.
Cecil was born on August 1, 1949, in Arkansas, the son of Cecil Sr. and Myrtle (Gerstenberger) Powell. He was a graduate of Linn-Mar High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam War. He built a long career as an Engineer and proud union member, working for Iowa Electric for over 40 years, many of those years at the 6th Street Generating Station in Cedar Rapids, before his retirement in 2009.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going out for breakfast with his former coworkers, and spending time with his children and long-time partner, Dee. Cecil was an avid firearms enthusiast, an active NRA member, and spent most of his time hunting and fishing.
Cecil is survived by his longtime partner, Dee Anderson of Rogers, Minnesota; children, Cecil James (Tracy) Powell of Cedar Rapids, Robert “Rob” (Diane Schoneman) Powell of Marion, William (Melissa) Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, and Rachael Johnson; grandchildren, Alexis Powell, Jacki Lange, Clara Powell, Michael Powell, and Matt and Bella Johnson; great-grandchildren, Bentley, Owen, and Ashton; three sisters, Louise Schonrock of Sioux City, Iowa, Patty Hash of Missouri, and Sonya Schwab of Cedar Rapids; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene “Gene” Powell; sisters, Sue Holderness and Mary Jensen.
Memorials in Cecil’s memory may be directed to the American Heart Association.
