Charles Allen “Chuck” Schmidt, age 68, a devoted husband, father, papa, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by family on April 19, 2026. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at St. Isadore Catholic Church in Springville. Luncheon to follow.

Chuck was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on May 18, 1957, to William and Marcella Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sharon, and his sister-in-law Anne.

Chuck was the beloved husband of Lisa (Riley) Schmidt. The two were married on September 20, 1980, and built a life centered on family. Together they raised three children: Ginelle (Joe), Tricia (Andy), and Derek. He was a proud papa to five grandsons: William, Connor, Ben, Owen, and Nicholas—each of whom brought him immense joy.

Chuck was the ninth of twelve siblings and is survived by Jerry (Shirley), Ray, Lee (Darlene), Ida (Tom), John (Teresa), Connie, Rita (Jim), Ed (Julie), Linda (Dave), and Betty (George). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

Chuck grew up on a farm, where he developed the strong work ethic that would define his life. He began his career as a welder at Harnischfeger, then went on to work at Maxx Midwest for 23 years. During that time, he turned his skill and dedication toward buffing farm and construction equipment—first as a side job and eventually as his full-time work. He took pride in doing a job well and earning an honest living.

Though he was a man of few words, Chuck showed his love through action. Whether it was shoveling a neighbor’s driveway, mowing a lawn, or helping a family member in need, he was always there without hesitation. His quiet generosity and dependability left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He found simple joy in the things he loved—tractors, a good hat, and watching westerns and sci-fi. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. Chuck will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his strong work ethic and the countless ways he showed up for those around him.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center and Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the exceptional kindness and care for Chuck and his family.
