Charles Gene Hartman, 73, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics in Iowa City, on Friday, January 29, 2010. Services: 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Donald DeCamp. Visitation: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Carol (Smith); sons, Charles, Chris, Casey and Craig (Deb); grandchildren, great grandchildren; his brothers, Jack (Dorothy Jo) of Barlow, Kentucky, Dick (Mary) of Cedar Rapids and Danny of Cedar Rapids; his sisters, Donna (Bill) Hood of Okeechobee, Florida and Vicki (Myron) Raas of Okeechobee, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy; his sister, Nellie; and his brother, Bob.
Most recently from Anamosa, Iowa, Charlie was born on February 8, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa. He married Carol Poulson in 1956. He was a machinist and worked at Empro, ElectroCoating, Cherry Burrell, CRANDIC and in later years as a driver for Yellow Cab.
Charlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming and was an outstanding softball player. He loved making cookies and candy each Christmas for loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
