Charlotte Irene Wyman, 86, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. A funeral service will be held at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, Iowa, on Monday, February 23, 2026. Visitation beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m., with a burial at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.
Born in Center Point, Iowa, on December 17, 1939, to Joseph Wathen and Thelma Lawrence. She was the eldest of two daughters. Charlotte moved to Central City, Iowa, and attended Central City Community School, graduating in 1958.
She met her future husband, Leon Wyman, at a basketball game in Springville while she was playing basketball for Central City; both of their jersey numbers were 33. They married on July 6, 1958. In July of 1959, their eldest daughter was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and in November 1962, their youngest daughter was born in Manchester, Iowa. They lived in Iowa until 1968, when they moved to Lakeland, Florida, due to Leon’s health.
Upon moving to Lakeland, Charlotte worked at Lakeland General Hospital. Her job led her to meeting several interesting people like Country stars George Jones and Tammy Wynett. Many Sundays were spent at George and Tammy’s home for outdoor country concerts. One Sunday was spent with Rozene Pride (Charlie Prides wife). In 1972, Charlotte moved to Melbourne due to a transfer of Leon's job. She worked for Harris Composition as a type set designer on newspapers which took her to several towns throughout the United States, until her retirement in 2000.
Charlotte enjoyed attending many athletic events and concerts with her family for her daughters while they were in high school and college, bass fishing, boating, bunco, camping, and anything outdoors. Many camping trips were had with family and friends, with a lot of fishing stories being told truthfully or stretching the truth many times. She was an avid animal lover as she had numerous birds, cats, dogs, opossums, squirrels, and even an indigo snake throughout her lifetime, getting her the nickname of Ellie May. She traveled the world with several friends, going on cruises and seeing countries like Germany and Switzerland.
She is survived by her eldest daughter, Stasia (Kevin) Burdett of Rockledge, Florida; her youngest daughter, Julie (Billy) Sees of Melbourne, Florida; her grandsons, Brandon Burdett of Brandon, Florida, and Mathew Burdett of Rockledge, Florida; a sister, Dorothy Brcka of Ogden, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Leon; father, Joseph Wathen; mother, Thelma Wathen Nightengale; stepfather, Glen Nightengale; and friend, Robert Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlotte's name to St. Francis Hospice, 6905 N. Wickham Road, Suite 300, Melbourne, Florida 32904.
