Clara Elizabeth Briles

Clara E. Briles, 97, of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Sunday, January 15, 2006, following a short illness. Private family services were held at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include daughter, Gladys (Howard) Grimm of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Cynthia Halde, Alan Grimm, and Larry Grimm; great-grandchildren, James Needham, Wendy Meskimen, Brian Grimm, Tyler Marshall, Elizabeth Wilmes, Amy Grimm, and Chad Grimm; great-great-grandchildren, Alex, Andie, Reece, Raegan, Ross, and Benjamin; and two sisters, Zola Austin and Iona Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert; and her brothers, Hollis Austin, Elmer Charles, and Richard Austin; and her sisters, Maybelle Austin and Freda Austin.
Clara was born September 14, 1908, in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ethel Lillian (Karns) Austin. On July 5, 1927, she was united in marriage to Albert Briles in Ottumwa, Iowa. He died on March 9, 1983. They owned Briles Grocery in Cedar Rapids where she worked for 45 years. Clara was a member of the Eagles and Witwer Senior Center and active in the Moose Lodge.
