Cyril “Cy” J. Gavin, 93, of Ryan, Iowa, died Thursday evening, July 12, 2007, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2007 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ryan, with Rev. Jack Flaherty officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:15 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, rural Ryan. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester is in charge of arrangements.
Cy was born February 20, 1914 in Ryan, the son of William and Mary (Donahue) Gavin. In 1930, he graduated from St. John's High School in Ryan. On October 8, 1939 Cy was united in marriage to Elissa Vifian in Ryan. Cy was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ryan. He enjoyed reading, walking, gardening and traveling.
Cy is survived by four children, Roslyn (Casey) Glynn and Suzanne (Robert) Britt, both of Ryan, John (Charlotte) Gavin of Iowa City, and Carol Gavin of Kansas City, MO; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Elissa Gavin in 1996; and four sisters, Patricia, Marguerite, Loretta and Helen in infancy.
