Darlene M. Slaymaker, 53, of 2930 Bowling St. SW, died Saturday, December 21, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Tim Carter. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2002, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Doug Slaymaker, Tom (Kara) Slaymaker and Jennifer Slaymaker, all of Cedar Rapids; her mother, Elizabeth Biwer of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Samantha Jean Slaymaker, Samantha Marie Gilson and Andrew Ellis Slaymaker; a sister, Alice (Arlen) Cummings of Palo; three brothers, Rick (Pat) Biwer of Vinton; James Biwer of Cedar Rapids and Steven Biwer of Bridgeport, New York; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Norbert; and her beloved grandmother, Alice Wolfe.
Darlene was born August 17, 1949, the daughter of Norbert and Elizabeth Biwer, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1967 graduate of Wheaton Central High School in Wheaton, Illinois, she attended Olivet Nazarene College and Mid-America Nazarene College. Darlene was a supervisor at APAC Customer Services for eight years. She attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids.
Darlene loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister and daughter, she was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
