David M. Ealy, 68, of 4116 Falbrook Drive N.E., Cedar Rapids, died Monday, August 9, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 13, 2004, at St. Paul?s United Methodist Church by Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer and Rev. Harlan Gillespie. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, at a later date.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Emrieanne; his children, Kyle Ealy and Karin Ealy and husband Glenn Kieler, all of Cedar Rapids; a special son, Greg Knotts and wife Kathy of Humble, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, Corey Ealy and wife Amy of Cedar Falls, Casey Ealy and fiancé, Emily; Kendy Hindahl and husband Nick and Stephen Kieler, all of Cedar Rapids, Carol and Dawn Kieler of Independence, Michael Kennington and wife Amanda of Baytown, Texas, Ryan Kennington of Channelview, Texas, Alan and Austin Knotts of Humble, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Cade and Kylei Ealy of Cedar Falls and Addison Kennington of Channelview, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Fran Ealy of LaPorte City; his mother, Marie Ealy of Belle Plaine; two sisters, Eunice Reed of Cedar Rapids and Sandra Wickwire and husband Alan of Belle Plaine; many nieces and nephews; and his pet ferret, Coco.

He was preceded in death by his father, Milo Ealy; a son, Kevin M. Ealy; a brother-in-law, Louie Reed; and his pet ferrets, Sam, Chunk, Bernard, Bianca, Taylor, Norman, Gus, Mollie, Lady, Baby, Maggie, Maggie II, and Susie.

David was born September 26, 1935, the son of Milo and Marie (Butterfield) Ealy in Kozta, Iowa. On November 23, 1957, he married Emrieanne "Emrie? Usher in the Little Brown Church. He owned and operated Ealy Property Management in Cedar Rapids. David was a member of St. Paul?s United Methodist Church for 36 years and was on the Property Committee, drove a van for the elderly and a bus for the youth for 25 years and was an usher. He was a member of the Greater Cedar Rapids Homebuilder?s Association for 23 years where he was in the Hall of Fame, twice voted Associate of the Year and served as Secretary. He was on the Nominating Committee, the Executive Board and was the local Associate Representative to the National Association Board. He served on the State Homebuilder?s Association where he was also voted "Associate of the Year.? He was on the Nominating Committee, Executive Board, Scholarship Board and was the state Associate Representative to the National Board. David served on the National Homebuilder?s Association Board of Directors, Board of Appeals for the City of Cedar Rapids Housing Department, was a member of the Republican Party and donated blood at St. Luke?s Hospital.

He was the best husband, father and grandfather "Papa? in the world. So many were blessed to have him in their lives. He will leave many sad hearts as well as many cherished memories. We thank the lord for placing him in our little corner of the world and touching all of us. We love you David!
