David “Dave” Rogers, 82, of Robins, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, at home, with his wife and daughters by his side. David was a kind, loving, selfless man, and he is missed deeply. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion, Iowa. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Dunkard Cemetery in Midway, Iowa.

David was born on November 1, 1943, in Mercer County, Missouri, the eldest son of Amos Clay and Lavada Ruth (Hayes) Rogers. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1962. David worked at Collins for most of his career, retiring after 36 years.

Throughout his life, David was generous in both words and actions. He was lavish with praise. “Good job,” “thank you,” and “I love you” were sincere and frequent expressions of his recognition and appreciation for others. He never hesitated to help family, friends, neighbors, or strangers.

David married Betty Fairchild on May 17, 1964, in Marion, Iowa, and immediately became a cherished member of the Fairchild family. David and Betty raised two daughters, Shari and Patti. As the family grew, David fully embraced the role of grandpa. He was thrilled to be grandpa to his grandsons and great-granddaughters and happily took on the role for other family members as well. He was also a beloved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, father-in-law, and trusted friend. He had an especially close bond with his grandsons and great-granddaughters.

David stayed active with many hobbies. He often bowled on multiple leagues during a season, played softball, played pool for fun and on leagues, golfed, and went to sprint car races. He loved being outdoors, including camping, boating, and Canada fishing trips which were more about spending time with the guys than fishing. Sitting by a fire and mowing were also good excuses to be outside and enjoy the fresh air.

Never one to sit still for long, David found time to build additions onto two of the family’s homes, doing much of the work himself. He also helped numerous friends and family in their own home projects, and was particularly talented in installing drywall.

David enjoyed automotive work. He worked part-time at Ray’s DX for several years, becoming lifelong friends with the owner. He worked on many vehicles of his own and for others. He had a particular fondness for Mustangs and his John Deere mower.

David is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty Rogers; daughters, Shari (Eric) Loftsgard, and Patti (Chris) Rogers-Engelby; grandsons, Adam (Darci) Loftsgard, Evan (Kamy) Loftsgard, and Blake (Kayla) Engelby; great-granddaughters, Avery Loftsgard, and Aspen Loftsgard; nephew, Jason (Lori) DeWald; great-nephew, Sagan DeWald; siblings, Alta Jean Wilson, Daniel (Janice) Rogers, Le (Lynne) Rogers, and Gloria Meyers; half-sister, Karen Schott; and numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clay and Ruth Rogers; and parents-in-law, Don and Mildred Fairchild.
