Dave was born on May 20, 1946, in Belmond, Iowa, to Sherman and Lorraine (Asbe) Tesdahl. Following his high school graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army. Dave earned a bachelor’s degree in business and later his MBA from the University of Iowa. On December 27, 1970, Dave was united in marriage to Susan “Sue” Katherine Shank at Danforth Chapel in Iowa City. They celebrated 54 years together.

He started his professional life with Burroughs Corporation and later joined Life Investors Insurance Company of America. He then founded his own financial planning firm, Tesdahl & Associates, and later affiliated with Premier Investments of Iowa. Dave was a devoted member of First Lutheran church in Cedar Rapids, serving in many roles. He also generously gave his time serving on the board for AbbeHealth Aging Services and the Abbe Center for Community Mental Health. He greatly enjoyed his involvement with the Sons of Norway and took pride in his Norwegian heritage.

In his free time, Dave enjoyed walking, reading, and grilling. He enjoyed spending time with friends and, in his younger years, also enjoyed dancing. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he followed nearly every kind of sport - especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was also a fan of the Clemson Tigers, where his grandson Jonathan attends college, and was a loyal supporter of the Washington Commanders, which he enjoyed following with his grandson Christopher. Dave also found great joy in his farm in Wright County, Iowa.
