C. Dean Remington, 73, died Monday, June 7, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, after an extended illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Mark Eades. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Joann; 6 children, Douglas C. (Carol) of Marion, Daniel R. (Debra) of Toddville, Pamela K. (John) Hinrichs of Cedar Rapids, Glendon L. (Jamae) of Marion, Rebecca M. (Dale) Forkner of Marion, and Patricia L. (Craig) Breja of Cedar Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Glendon (Elinor) Remington of Marion, and Gerald (Lena) Remington of Rapids City, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glendon L. & Leona Remington; a brother, Larry J. Remington; sister, Glenda Erickson; infant brother, Glendon Lee Remington; and a great-grandson, John Hinrichs.
Dean was born October 12, 1936, in Anamosa, the son of Glendon Lee and Leona (Kula) Remington. He grew up on a farm near Anamosa. On July 28, 1956, Dean was united in marriage to Joann S. Bahls at Peace Evangelical Church in Elkader. The couple raised their family in Toddville then settled in Cedar Rapids. Dean worked for Penick and Ford, now known as Penford Products, before joining Cargill in 1977. He retired in 1997.
Dean enjoyed camping and fishing on the Mississippi, tending his garden, and spending time with his family. He also liked tailgating Marion and Coe football games, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, as well as his grandchildren’s events.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dean’s honor.
