Dennis "Denny" Wayne Hebdon Jr.

Dennis “Denny” Wayne Hebdon Jr., 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. Per Denny’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Denny was born on August 7, 1946, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Dennis Sr. and Venita (Dau) Hebdon. He was a 1964 graduate of Clinton High School and went on to attend Clinton Community College, where he earned his associates degree. Denny proudly served eight years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Washington State, Germany, Morocco, Portugal, and the Azore Islands. On May 27, 1967, Denny was united in marriage to Kathryn “Katie” Marie Koutny in Cedar Rapids.

He dedicated a long career to Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, as an Electronics Program Manager, until his retirement. He then worked for Ketelsen RV for many years, as their parts manager. Denny was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ely, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid bowler, earning his spot in the Iowa State Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame and the Cedar Rapids Bowling Hall of Fame. Denny had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs, and owned many during his years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Denny is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Katie Hebdon; two children, Stacy Hebdon of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Jayson Hebdon of Anamosa, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jayson Hebdon Jr., Joseph Hebdon, and Tessa Hebdon (Corbin Ricketts); three great-grandchildren, Pyper, Paisley, and Colt Ricketts; nieces, Brenda Schreiber and Beth Dierks; and his beloved dog, Coal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Alan Dierks.

Memorials in Denny’s memory may be directed to Camp Courageous or First Presbyterian Church in Ely.
