Donald A. Wall, 76, of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 6, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Dr. Rev. Jean Rabary. Family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester and one hour before service Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Ryan.
Donald was born March 14, 1933 in rural Manchester to Albert and Frieda (Helmrichs) Wall. Graduating from Manchester High School, he served with the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Janet Skeries on July 4, 1952 at the First Lutheran Church in Manchester. Don worked as the head of maintenance for Quality Chef for more than 40 years.
Don built several homes for his family and others. He enjoyed canoeing, camping, and wood carving. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Wood Carvers Club. He found pleasure in doing repairs and maintenance. He was always up to a challenge.
Don is survived by two children, Cindy Wall of Manchester and Kirk Wall of Coggon; a brother, Melvin (Edith) Wall of Delhi; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Janet Wall in 2004; and his parents, Albert and Frieda Wall.
