Donald William Meyer, 91, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at ABCM Rehabilitation in Independence, Iowa, surrounded by his family. As to Donald’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private family burial will be in the Allison Cemetery, Allison, Iowa, at a later date. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester is assisting the family.
Donald was born on July 30, 1933, the son of Clarence and Hikalena (Bruns) Meyer. Donnie and his family lived on a farm near Ackley, Iowa. At a young age he worked as a farm hand for area farmers. After attending school, he entered into the United States Army where he honorably served our country from 1953 to 1955. In 1966, Donnie and his family moved to Manchester, where he worked as a cheese maker. In 1973 to 1989 he owned and operated Don’s Café & Truck stop. In early 2000, he was employed as a milk hauler. He enjoyed driving and visiting with the patrons.
Donnie is survived by his four children, Barbara (Jerry) Paul of Maynard, Iowa, Sharon (Duane) Hunt of Earlville, Iowa, Debra (Roger Hagen) Meyer of Waterloo, Iowa, Darrell (Marilyn Schanbeek) Meyer of Manchester; his former spouse, Julena Meyer; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Merlin and Robert Meyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Hikalena; and his brothers, Marvin, Harold, and Irvin Meyer.
