Donald F. Phillips, 54, of Central City, died Sunday, October 23, 2005, while performing community service on adopt-a-highway for the Knights of Columbus. Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2005, at St. Stephen?s Catholic Church in Central City by Rev. Wayne Droessler with military honors. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus rosary to follow. Private family burial: Baker Cemetery.
Survivors include his son, Sean (Melissa) Phillips of Marion; his daughter, Heather Phillips (Lorn) of Brampton, Ontario; his mother, Becky Phillips of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, John (Sandy) Phillips of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Dianne) Phillips of Spencer and Tim (Pat) Phillips of Hiawatha; five grandchildren, Payge, Cameryn, Tyler, J.D., and Amber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack and his twin brother, Ron.
Donald was born December 3, 1950, the son of Jack H. and Becky G. (Hunter) Phillips in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from LaSalle High School and Kirkwood Community College. On June 26, 1971, he married Julie Saylor, they later divorced. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1970-1974. Donald worked for Kilborn Photo for thirteen years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Stephen?s Catholic Church in Central City, Grand Knight of North Linn Knights of Columbus Council No. 12136 and Bowen General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Donald was a loving father and brother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
