Donna Lee Ellwood, 79, of 1263 Washington Drive, Marion, died Friday morning, August 31, 2007, in Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, following complications of a stroke. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Marion, by the Rev. John Gossman. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Homes & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa.
Survivors include her husband, Dwayne; a daughter, Roma (Michael) Gregory of Roseville, Minnesota; a son, Jerry Ellwood of Marion, Iowa; two sisters, Gail (Duane) Gunderson and Delores (Karl) Newport, all of Cedar Rapids; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Thomas Gregory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Edna, Helen and Patricia.
Born September 4, 1927, in Oxford Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Frances Benhart Shedek, she married Dwayne C. Ellwood on November 14, 1949, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. For twenty-two years, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Crestview Acres in Marion, until she retired in 1989. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion. Donna enjoyed dancing and helping out at the Senior Center.
The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Willow Gardens for the tender care they provided Donna.
A memorial fund has been established for Camp Courageous or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
