Doris M. West, 69, of 1747 Meadowdale Drive NW, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at home following a short illness. Services: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Terry Smith and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids, Carrie Ann Fitkin of Cedar Rapids, Wendy Northcutt and husband Don of Cedar Rapids and Les West of Englewood, Colorado; her grandchildren, Jason Shook and fiancée Angela Dolter, Jessica Shook, Joshua and Angela Fitkin, Lindsey Wagamon, Joshua and Shannon Northcutt; her brothers, Rev. Rollin Oswald of Marion and Gene Oswald of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and her dogs, Pooh & Dewey (Dew Drop).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin "Joe?; her parents; a grandson, Elliott Fitkin; a granddaughter, Stacey Fitkin and her sons-in-law, Terry Wagamon and Daniel Shook.
Doris was born September 19, 1934, the daughter of Gordon F. and Mrytle H. (Wolter) Oswald, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952 and attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. On June 28, 1956, she married Marvin "Joe? West. He passed away on April 14, 2002. Doris worked as a clerk for over 20 years, most recently for Cedarrapids, Inc. She loved music of all kinds; attending craft shows, ceramics, working crosswords, playing cards and spending time outside with family and neighborhood friends. Doris was a grandma to everyone, had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed.
