Dorothy Mae Hughes, 80, of Toddville, Iowa, died Monday, October 31, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial: Bethel Cemetery, Sigourney, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Philip Hughes of Palo, David (Paulette) Hughes of Cedar Rapids, Michael Hughes of Toddville, Carolyn Atwood of Cedar Rapids, Steven (Janet) Hughes of Arlington, Texas, Gregory Hughes of Cedar Rapids and Linda (David) Gustoff of Bertram; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Luella) Keck of Fairfield and Milton Keck of California; and a sister, Leota Willey of Mt. Pleasant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene; and a grandson, Jay Allen Atwood.
Dorothy was born July 11, 1925, the daughter of Milton and Helen (Ruby) Keck, in Olivet, Kansas. A Packwood High School graduate, she was united in marriage to Eugene Dewitt Hughes on May 6, 1945, at St. Mary?s Church, Ottumwa, Iowa. He died July 17, 1992. For 27 years, Dorothy worked in packaging at Quaker Oats, retiring in 1993. She was active in the Catholic Church.
