Dorothy was born November 7, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Williams) Gearkee in Iowa City. On June 6, 1939, she married William Greer McCrory in Cedar Rapids. He died December 14, 1992. Dorothy was co-director of Eager Elves pre-school for twenty-five years.
Dorothy’s life was always focused on her faith, her family and music. She and her husband, Greer, were a strong team, raising their children with love and patience. “Uncle Bill and Aunt Doad” were also instrumental in shaping the lives of their many adored grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Holidays were always special and their home was headquarters for countless gatherings with their children and grandchildren as well as extended family. Music was a driving force in Dorothy’s life. As a young girl, she sang on the radio for an Iowa City station. She was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church for most of her life. She served in many positions and much of her life was dedicated to her church work. She sang in the choir for years and also was a soloist for countless baptisms and special events. She also loved to join her pal, Ruth Webster in leading old-time hymn sings at church and area care centers. In recent years she attended Cedar Hills Community Church with her family. The blessings Dorothy shared will be remembered by all whose lives were touched.
