Doug was born June 9, 1962, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Robert and Janice (Hotz) Tomash. He graduated from Prairie High School and attended Iowa State University and Calvary Bible College. While in High School he worked at Hy-Vee Wilson Ave and multiple jobs while in college. After completing college, he was united in marriage to Melanie (Bell) at Salina Bible Church in Salina, Kansas. He then attended an internship program in Grand Rapids, Michigan, became Environmental Services Director at Springbrook Manor and Michigan Christian Home. After moving back to Iowa, he became a Housing Inspector for the City of Cedar Rapids, worked at Rockwell Collins, Siemens, Clipper Wind Power, and Vontas in various positions including Subcontracts Administrator, Supply Chain Leader, and Senior Buyer/Manager.
Doug's interests included restoring air-cooled VW bugs, Experimental Aircraft (EAA and flight line volunteer), hiking, and biking. He enjoyed logistics, learning, adventure, and exploration. He was a handyman and loved construction projects including building a house for his family, designing and building a trailer, as well as other projects in process. He often hummed a hymn while working on projects. He was rarely still and was one of the hardest working people anyone would know. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, wife, children and playing with playdoh, reading to, and taking walks with his grandchildren. Doug will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
