Edith "Lou? Luense, 98 of Manchester, Iowa, died Thursday evening, June 15, 2006, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, after a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Manchester United Methodist Church by Pastor Jill Mack. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Grant View Cemetery, Greeley, Iowa.
Lou was born October 25, 1907, the daughter of LeRoy J. & Mary L. (Cruise) Baskerville, on a farm near Greeley, Iowa. Lou graduated from Manchester High School in 1925 and completed the normal training course. Lou taught in rural schools near Manchester, Iowa. On June 15, 1927 Lou was united in marriage to Harlan W. Luense in Greeley. The couple farmed near Greeley until moving to Manchester in 1959. Harlan died March 2, 1963.
Lou was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Manchester, Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine, Farm Bureau, 4-H leader, Audubon Society, Phi Delphian Club, Republican Party, and various other clubs and organizations. She enjoyed doing house-mother work at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Lou also liked to travel. Lou?s hobbies were growing african violets, collecting bells and poems, bird watching, knitting, crocheting and tatting. Her handiwork is evident in the homes of her family.
Lou is survived by three daughters, Charmion (Gerhardt) Van Drie of El Segundo, California, Joann (Donald) Ackman of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Wanda Wilson of Delhi, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Lois Baskerville-Hill of Perry, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy & Mary Baskerville; her husband, Harlan Luesne; a son-in-law, Robert Wilson; four brothers, Charles, George, Arza and Trevor Baskerville; four sisters, Florence Carrothers, Merry Harter, Ora Sherrard and Hattie Moser; and nieces and nephews.
