Edith May Winistorfer, 98, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until the service time. A Private Family Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Edith was born on September 4, 1927, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gustave and Madeline (Clark) Schwandt. She was a graduate of Earlville, Iowa High School. On October 6, 1948, Edith was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” J. Winistorfer in Cedar Rapids. Together, they raised five children. Bob passed away in 2000.

Edith graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing as part of the Cadet Nurse Corps. She enjoyed a long career at St. Luke’s Hospital as a Registered Nurse, primarily in the newborn nursery. Edith lived a life of caring and service to others, especially children, which led her and Bob to care for fifteen infants as foster parents through Lutheran Social Services. Edith was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids for over eighty years, and active in their quilting group. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Edith is survived and lovingly remembered by her five children, Mark (Becky) Winistorfer of Lisbon, Iowa, John (Judy) Winistorfer of Marion, Paul (Jeanette) Winistorfer of Blacksburg, Virginia, Ann (Steve) Godar of Marion, and Carolyn (Ron) Lochner of Ely, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, Sheryl (Shawn) Monnahan, Stacy (Rhonda) Winistorfer, Aaron (Darci) Slager, Ben Winistorfer, Soren Winistorfer, Jonah Winistorfer, Bethany (Julian) Mast, Madeline (Michael Chervek) Godar, Meredith Godar, Gage Lochner, Brandon (Rowan) Lochner, and Rachel Lochner; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, David (Carolyn) Schwandt of Earlville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Winistorfer; and three brothers, Richard, Carl, and Lynn Schwandt.
