Edward "Ed" Eugene Baily

Edward Eugene “Ed” Baily went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, after a short stay in hospice care.

Born March 7, 1935, to Jay & Velma Baily in Cedar Rapids, Ed graduated in 1953 from Springville High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1958, and later became a member of American Legion Post 331, Springville, IA. He married Darlyce (Port) Baily on August 1, 1958. Ed was a delivery driver for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, a loading crane operator, and a parts specialist for Link-Belt Speeder Cranes. He farmed for over twenty years, drove a school bus for Springville Schools, and was caretaker for Camp Hitaga with his wife, Darlyce, and son, Curt. Ed was a faithful servant in the Jordan’s Grove Church family.

Ed liked to keep things simple and “live in the moment”. He seemed to feel most productive when he could use his farm and fix-it knowledge to build, repair, and help. Over the last few decades, changes in his life were evident: work was for helping someone, strangers quickly became friends, conversations were deeper, and jokes and teasing were meant to lighten someone’s day. Ed often shared how much he loved and missed Darlyce and Curtis, and about how his relationship with Jesus Christ continued to impact his life. He often ended a conversation with “Jesus loves you, and so do I”.

Ed is survived by his children, Eugene (Brenda) Baily, Marcia (Russ) Hughes, and Brenda (Brad) Van Horn; grandchildren, Ryan Hughes, Aaron Hughes, Hollyann Hughes, Megan Baily, Mitchell (Abria) Baily, Melanie Van Horn, and Jonah (Maren) Van Horn; great-grandchildren, Nicolas Hughes, Elijah Hughes, Ruth Hughes, and Wayne Hughes; a brother, Ben Baily; and sister, Doris Kenney.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, and will be joining his cherished wife, Darlyce, and much beloved son, Curt, in the presence of Jesus.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Creekside Bible Church, 1410 44th St, Marion, IA 52302. The celebration of life will also be at Creekside on Saturday, August 15 at 10:30 a.m. with a meal to follow.
