Edward L. Silver, 80, of 3095 16th Ave., died Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at First Baptist Church in Marion at 12 noon on Friday, October 1, 2004. Services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the church by Rev. Randy Bobzien. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City with military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Grace of Marion; his children, Wayne Silver (Pamela J.) of Cedar Rapids, Donna Silver (Gary Hoppes) of Ely and Pamela Diane Silver of Marion; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Silver (Melinda) of Lisbon, Robert Silver of Cedar Rapids, Shawn Silver (Amy) of Cedar Rapids, Cory Silver of Cedar Rapids and Justin Silver of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and thirteen brothers and sisters.

Edward was born May 19, 1924, the son of Royal A. and Myrtle (Dow) Silver in Linn County. On April 10, 1945, he married Grace Wright of Central City in Des Moines. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII. Ed farmed near Prairieburg until 1968. He then moved to Marion and worked for FMC as a security guard, retiring in 1982. Ed was a member of First Baptist Church of Marion, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post No. 555 of Ely and VFW Post No. 788 of Cedar Rapids.

Ed was an avid guitarist and singer. He enjoyed performing throughout Linn County at nursing homes, dances and special occasions.
