Elaine Agnes Cook, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Bickford of Marion. A Memorial Service and visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on July 9, 2026. The Visitation will start at 10:30 a.m. with Service at noon. A private family inurnment will take place in Oxford, Iowa.
Elaine (Wagner) Cook was born on July 3,1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to the parents of Antone Wagner and Agnes (Sandersfeld) Wagner. Elaine was united in holy marriage to Kenneth Cook on January 4, 1969. They were married at Our Redeemer Church in Iowa City, Iowa. Elaine and Ken were married for 57 years.
Elaine was a member of the Oxford Iowa Lutheran Church where she was Baptized and Confirmed. Her family transferred to our Redeemer Lutheran Church where she helped to teach Sunday school. While traveling with Ken when he was in the Navy, she taught Bible class in Panama City, Florida. Elaine was involved in Walther League and 4H. Elaine was a 1965 graduate of Iowa City High School. After graduation, she attended AIB (American Institute of Business) in Des Moines, Iowa. She went to work for the Swisher Bank and then the University of Iowa, College of Pharmacy. After raising her two children, Elaine went back to work using a temp service. Among the places she worked were McCloud and G.E. Capital.
Elaine was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After retiring, Elaine volunteered at Crossroads Mission and was a member of the Hawk A Model A Ford Club. She had a passion for genealogy, spending many hours researching the Wagner, Sandersfeld and Cook history.
Elaine is survived by her husband Kenneth Cook; children, Kathlene Hoech and Kevin Cook; brother, Alvin Wagner and wife, Alta; children, Lyle Wagner and Denise Fessler; aunt, Barb Sandersfeld; and many cousins.
Memorials may be given to Bethany Lutheran Church or Bickford of Marion.
