Elinor Ruth Alshouse, 85, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at her home. The family will greet friends from 5 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, located at 3275 North Center Point Road, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Reverend Christopher Navurskis will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Westgate, Iowa.
Elinor was born on May 25, 1941, in Westgate, the daughter of Rudolf and Agatha (Dettmering) Potratz. She was a graduate of Oelwein High School. On September 24, 1960, Elinor was united in marriage to Lee Ernest Alshouse at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Westgate. Together they raised five children.
Elinor worked as a secretary/clerk for several companies including, Occo Feeds in Oelwein, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Stonebridge Apartments in Marion, and Vernon Middle School. She was a member of the King of Kings Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Elinor was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Women’s Basketball fan. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Elinor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Elinor is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Lee Alshouse; three children, Jamie (Tracy) Alshouse of Cedar Rapids, Kara (Todd) Nulle of Springville, Iowa, and Chad Alshouse of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, T.J. (Stacey) O’Brien, Mackenzie, Karlie, Jenna, and Melissa Nulle; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Gruetzmacher; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kristi Jo; son, Jeffrey Lee; and eight siblings.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care and support they gave to Elinor during her final days.
