Elizabeth “Betty” A. Luzum, 85, a long-time resident of Marion, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2014. A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion and one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the church on Monday. A family burial will be held Tuesday, February 25, in Canton, MN.
Remaining to honor her memory is her loving husband of 55 years, Kenneth; children, Craig (Linda) Luzum of Smyrna, GA, Steve (Kim) Luzum of Leawood, KS, Anne (Kevin) Schneider of Marion, and Dave (Jenny Manner) of Asheville, NC; seven grandchildren, Ben, Lauren, and Mitch Schneider, Nico Luzum, Nathan Luzum, and Jacob and Charlotte Luzum; brother-in-law, Jerry (Rosemary) Luzum of Naples, NY; and sister-in-law, Audrey Snyder of Canton, MN.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Vane Jr.; and sisters, Mary and Charlotte.
Betty was born January 15, 1929, in Canton, MN, the daughter of Vane and Anne (Carmody) Snyder. She was united in marriage with Kenneth Luzum on September 6, 1958, at Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, MN. Betty earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of St. Teresa, Winona, MN and began a teaching career in Evanston, IL, and later, in Richland Center, WI. After raising her children, Betty returned to the school system as a library aide at Marion Independent Schools for 20 years before retiring.
Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion and a member of Mercy Auxiliary. Betty enjoyed time spent with family, reading, playing cards, gardening, and volunteering at church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, or to Hospice of Mercy in Betty’s memory.
